Nirvana sucks according to this ridiculously rare Kurt Cobain guitar case.

October 19, 2016 by evpcd

*Note the deep indentations inside the case from clearly a left handed guitar in a right handed case. Very Kurt.  This incredibly unique, highly decorated case originally housed Kurt’s Washburn Force 2 guitar. This guitar was used for a very brief period of time in the late 1989. It was built in Japan and featured black finish with a matching headstock color, rosewood fretboard, and a humbucker in the bridge position. Kurt smashed it on December 3rd, 1989 at Astoria Theatre. This […]

What eBay could learn from Etsy. The art of the sell.

September 12, 2016 by evpcd

I’ve been a member of eBay since November of 1997. Yeah, a long time. Done literally hundreds and hundreds of transactions both as a buyer and seller. For the most part most have gone well. I have flawless feedback somewhere in the 1000’s. And yeah, been scammed a few times. Had my share of of dealing with miserable sellers. As well as being a disgruntled buyer a few times. But overall can’t really complain. Until now. Collecting isn’t a hobby with me, […]

Selling or trading things you swore would die with you, to buy other stuff you swear will die with you.

October 12, 2015 by evpcd

With us crazy collectors the hunt for “stuff” is never over. With me while I can say, ” Yeah I’ve been looking for one of these or one of those for years.” I find it’s more about what’s out there that I don’t know about. What I have never seen before and don’t even know exists. That’s the thrilling and exciting part of the hunt for me. Finding stuff and being offered pieces that I’ve never seen. Over the years […]

John Densmore Drummer for The Doors. “Snarling as hell, that was my sound.”

September 18, 2015 by evpcd

“It was a pretty standard set-up. One tom-tom on the bass drum and a floor tom. Real spectacular! I never went for the two bass drum routine; there are lots of people who can do more with one than most guys can do with two. I liked to take the bottom heads off my toms to make them bark and growl. I hated new skins – I loved the sound of ’em after they’d been beaten to death for months, […]

Mick’s Maraca, Mick’s Pants, Keith’s leather jacket and Keith’s Pirate shirt. Authenticating stuff that hard to authenticate.

June 19, 2015 by evpcd

One of the most difficult of items to authenticate are items owned and used by artists and bands. Clothing, equipment, personal items often don’t come with the best documentation, provenance or photos. Even dealers and reputable auction houses often are not able to supply the necessary information and background a collector might need in order for him or her to feel confident about making what is usually a pricey purchase. I’ve been fortunate enough over the years to have been […]

Ringo Starr, I guess I have you to thank for this obsession.

June 16, 2014 by evpcd

For those drummers like me who for the first time saw Ringo Starr sitting behind his Ludwig kit on the Ed Sullivan show on February, 9, 1964, were experiencing history before our eyes. While I had no idea at the time, I was nine years old, of the impact that band and performance would have on my life, it’s clear now how big of an impact it did have. I know I like every other kid at the time had […]

On the road again. Set lists and road cases. The Doors, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses and Velvet Revolver.

April 9, 2014 by evpcd

Sometimes you get bored with collecting. At least I do. Collecting what everyone else does. Chasing the same things. Bidding in the same auctions. This for me usually leads to frustration, which usually leads to focusing on an area of collecting that I haven’t had much interest in, and maybe others aren’t paying any attention to. It also means opening my eyes to wonderful new pieces I have ignored in the past. It usually broadens my collection, and if I’m […]

“Jim Morrison used to sit on this case and smoke a joint now and then.” According to Ray Manzarek.

October 2, 2013 by evpcd

My latest find. Actually a trade. A Doors road case from the late 60’s early 70’s. Vintage, used, thrown across the room, beat up, kicked, dropped and sat on by the Lizard King himself. What makes this piece way cooler, if that’s even possible, is the letter the Doors keyboardist Ray Manzarek wrote on Doors stationary to accompany it. I’ve for some strange reason always wanted to add a road case to my collection. You got to figure if […]

Slash comes to the House of Blues in Boston, July 8, 2013. I was there, and so was my daughter.

July 10, 2013 by evpcd

Last August I caught Slash and Myles Kennedy at the House of Blues in Boston. It was just as hot then as it was Monday night. This time I took my 21 year old to her first Slash show. Aside from being doused with beer , being pushed and shoved, and witnessing a drug deal gone bad, I’d say she had a pretty decent time. Bad parenting? She took most of the pictures here. It helps when you paid for […]
